In rainy weather, kiwifruit orchards built in paddy fields or low-lying areas are prone to waterlogging in varying degrees. Kiwifruit is a fleshy root with excessive rainfall, which causes soil water saturation, insufficient supply, poor air permeability, and weakened root respiratory capacity, leading to gradual root decay. In order to restore the growth of affected orchards as soon as possible and reduce the loss of waterlogging damage, it is suggested that fruit farmers take the following remedial measures for affected orchards: ditching drainage after raining, drainage in time, water still accumulates in low-lying areas of orchards after water recession, ditching drainage in time is needed to restore normal breathing of trees.
How to manage kiwifruit after rainstorm
After the whole garden was flooded by fertilization and loosening, the garden floor became knotted and the root system became anoxic. When the foot is not sticky on the surface soil, shallow tillage is carried out to loosen the soil and promote new roots. After loosening the soil, fertilizer should be applied timely according to tree potential, tree age and yield, 2500-3500 kg organic fertilizer per mu, 80-100 kg special fertilizer for fruit trees or 150 kg compound fertilizer, depending on the size of the tree.
Appropriate pruning of kiwifruit trees after disasters requires timely pruning of dead branches, combing out disease and insect branches, cross branches, dense branches and delicate branches, so as to make the tree ventilated, transparent and metabolic balance.
Tree trunk is easy to fall off after waterlogging. It can be white on tree trunk. Formula of whitening agent: water 10 phr, quicklime 2 phr, salt 0.5 phr, solid stone-sulfur mixture 1 phr or sulfur powder 25 G.
Spraying foliar fertilizer can restore tree potential by 0.2% urea and 0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Spraying foliar fertilizer every other week for 2-3 times.
It is easy to suffer from diseases after water accumulation. Spraying 800 times carbendazim or 1000 times methyl topazim on the leaves can control the growth of pathogens and avoid further harm to the health of fruit trees. After flooding, spraying reactive oxygen species (ROS) eliminator as early as possible to alleviate Waterlogging Damage under weather conditions can be used to spray leaves with 1000 ppm sodium benzoate or ascorbic acid (ROS eliminator).
